Caroat help and support
Get a paid report back, sort out a problem, or find out what Caroat can and cannot tell you about a vehicle.
Get your report again
Enter the email address you paid with and we will send you a link to your reports. You do not need an account or an order number. Reports are kept with no time limit, so one bought last year still opens today.
If the email does not arrive
- Check the spam or junk folder. The message comes from reports@caroat.co.uk.
- Use the exact address the card was paid with. Another inbox of yours returns nothing, even though it is also yours.
- The link lasts 30 minutes. If it has run out, ask for a new one here.
- Still nothing? Email info@caroat.co.uk with the registration and we will find the order.
What is free, and what the paid report adds
More of the vehicle record is free on Caroat than on most UK check sites. Free data and paid data are labelled differently everywhere they appear, and the free part never moves behind the paywall.
Free, no card, no account
- MOT status, expiry and every test on file with advisories.
- Tax and SORN status, plus road tax rates.

See it all on the free checks page.

Read a real sample report or buy on the premium check page.
My MOT, tax or mileage data looks wrong
Caroat shows what the official records hold and cannot edit them. Who to ask depends on the record. The DVSA holds MOT results, advisories and the mileage taken at each test. The DVLA holds tax, SORN, keeper and V5C records. Finance, write-off and stolen markers come from the commercial registers our data provider reads.
Tell us what is wrong on the contact page and we will name the organisation that holds it and how to ask them to fix it. Once the source record changes, Caroat shows the new version as soon as the feed updates.
Payment, receipts and refunds
A premium report is £6.99 for one and £9.99 for two, paid once. There is no subscription, no account and no renewal. Card payment is handled by Stripe, and the report is delivered on screen and by email to the address used at the checkout. On the two report bundle, the second report can be used on any registration for up to 12 months.
We refund in full if we fail to deliver a report, if a report is faulty because of a technical fault on our side, or if you were charged twice for the same thing. We do not refund because a check found history you hoped it would not. The full wording is in the terms.
The registration was not found
Caroat reads UK records, so it needs a UK plate. Four things explain almost every empty result.
- Type the plate as it is printed, letters and numbers only. A space is fine, other characters are not.
- A plate issued in Ireland, mainland Europe or anywhere outside the UK has no UK record to return.
- A brand new vehicle can take a few days to appear, and a private plate transfer moves the record to the new plate. Use the plate shown on the V5C today.
- Northern Ireland vehicles hold a DVLA record, but MOT tests there are recorded apart from the Great Britain service, so test detail can be thin or missing.

Common questions
How do I get my Caroat report back if I lost the email?
Enter the email address you paid with in the form on this page. We send a link to every report bought with that address. There is no account and no order number to find. The link lasts 30 minutes, so open it on the device you want to read the report on.
How long does a Caroat report stay available?
There is no cut off. A paid report is kept for as long as Caroat runs, so a report bought last year still opens today. The second report on the £9.99 two report bundle is different: it has to be used on a registration within 12 months of purchase.
Do I need an account to use Caroat?
No. Caroat has no accounts, no passwords and no subscription. Free checks run without any sign up, and a paid report is tied to the email address used at the checkout.
Which parts of a Caroat check are free?
MOT status and full test history, tax and SORN status, every mileage reading on file, the factory specification and road tax rates are free, with no card and no account. Only the premium report is paid, at £6.99 for one or £9.99 for two.
Can Caroat correct wrong MOT, tax or mileage data?
No. Caroat shows what the DVSA, the DVLA and our data provider hold, and cannot edit those records. Tell us what looks wrong and we will name the organisation that holds it. Once the source record is corrected, the change appears on Caroat when the feed updates.
Why does my registration return nothing?
Caroat reads UK records and needs a UK plate. A plate from Ireland, mainland Europe or outside the UK returns nothing, a brand new vehicle can take a few days to reach the feed, and a private plate transfer moves the record to the new plate.
