About Caroat
Caroat is a UK vehicle check service. Put in a number plate and see what the official record says about that car before you buy it. Most of it is free.
What Caroat does
Caroat is a UK vehicle data and history check service at caroat.co.uk. Enter a UK number plate and Caroat returns that vehicle's MOT test history, road tax and SORN status, every recorded mileage reading and its full factory specification, free and with no account. The free record comes from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History Service. A £6.99 premium report, paid once, adds outstanding finance, write-off and damage category, a stolen marker, previous keepers, plate changes, import and export records and a current valuation. Caroat is an independent commercial service and is not part of the DVLA, the DVSA or GOV.UK.
It is built for the moment before money changes hands: the used car in the advert, the plate you were sent, the car sitting on the drive. Every registration checked keeps its own permanent page, so the same car can be looked at again later without paying twice for anything.
Who runs Caroat
Caroat is operated by Internet Plus Services Ltd, registered in England and Wales. Support email: info@caroat.co.uk.
Caroat is the public brand name. Internet Plus Services Ltd is the legal operator shown on invoices, terms and privacy.
What is free
- MOT history. Every test on record, with the pass or fail result, the advisories and the dangerous defects.
- Tax and SORN status. Whether the vehicle is taxed, when the tax runs out, and whether it is declared off the road.
- Mileage. Every reading taken at MOT, in date order, with drops and unusual jumps flagged.
- Specification. Engine, power, fuel, gearbox, body, emissions and running costs as recorded, not as advertised.
No account, no card, no trial. Start with the free vehicle check or enter a plate on the homepage.
What costs money
The free record cannot tell you whether money is owed on a car, whether an insurer has written it off, or whether it is recorded as stolen. That comes from commercial registers that charge for access. The Caroat premium report is £6.99, paid once, and adds outstanding finance, write-off category, stolen marker, previous keepers, plate and colour changes, import and export records, scrapped status and a current valuation. A two-report bundle is £9.99.
There is no subscription and no recurring charge. You can look at a sample report before deciding.
Fair pricing
Caroat offers the same premium vehicle data quality that major UK history check providers use, at among the lowest prices in the market. We believe buyers should get fair value for data: one clear payment, no subscription, and no hidden renewal. You pay once and the report is yours to keep.
Complete, up to date reports
Every premium report is built from live lookups at the time you pay. We show what came back from the registers. We do not trim the result to a single headline.
- Insurance write-offs. If a car has been written off more than once, every recorded write-off is listed, not just the latest.
- Finance. Every finance agreement on record is shown, including agreements that have ended and any that are still running.
- Stolen markers. Any stolen record returned by the data provider is shown clearly, with no detail held back.
- Mileage, keepers and plates. Full MOT mileage history, keeper changes, plate changes and identity details are included when the source holds them.
If a source has nothing on file for that vehicle, the report says so. We do not fill gaps with guesses.
Where the data comes from
Vehicle details, tax status and SORN come from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. MOT test history and the mileage readings come from the DVSA MOT History Service. The finance, write-off, stolen, valuation and keeper data in the paid report comes from a licensed commercial vehicle data provider.
Caroat is not a government service and is not endorsed by the DVLA or the DVSA. Where a record is missing or a source is unavailable, the page says so rather than guessing.
Why the name
Caroat is one word, said as car oat. The name was chosen as a short, memorable label for a UK vehicle checking service run by Internet Plus Services Ltd at caroat.co.uk.
